Kemble and District Playgroup

Kemble playgroup is a small, friendly, community based playgroup, which meets in the Village Hall, just across the road from the school. Consequently the playgroup has formed very close links with the school. Playgroup began in
1973 and for over 30 years has served the village and surrounding area.
Playgroup children regularly go over to the school for outdoor activities in the playground, playing field or wooded nature area. During the summer term in particular, the reception class teacher will come over and visit the children at playgroup and those children due to start school are given opportunities to spend some time in the reception class, meeting the teachers and becoming familiar with their new classroom. This also enables the teachers to acquire good local knowledge of the children and their families, which eases school entry for the children and benefits the school by highlighting any particular needs the children may have.
Although the playgroup is actually independent from Kemble School with some children going on to various other local village primary schools, a large number of parents choose the secure transition from playgroup to the school for their children as friendships have already formed and their children are positively familiar with the school.
Kemble playgroup opens for four mornings a week (excluding Wednesdays) from 8.45am to 11.45am during term times. It is registered for up to 24 children per session. Our staff are fully trained and welcome children and their families between the ages of 2 years 9 months and 5 years. Our committee-run group is regulated by Ofsted. The playgroup enjoys much community support with parents actively partaking in fundraising events creating a family atmosphere and opportunities for parents to make new friends.
The aims of the Playgroup are:-
to enable children to play and learn together in a safe and caring environment to make each child feel secure and valued
to provide a wide range of activities for all abilities and interests to monitor and assess the children's progress to ease their transition into school.
